I went to an open house for an "available property" listed by the Becker Group. The property is not listed on their website, only on Zillow Craigslist etc. After the showing they are unreachable by phone and email to submit an application. We are very qualified tenants and we're excited at the open house to apply, but it appears it may be a scam to just get application fees collected because the property isn't listed and they are very hard to reach.

I am not one to write reviews, but my recent experience with the Becker Group was incredibly disappointing, and I want to save others the time and hassle of giving this place your business. I viewed two apartments being shown by the Becker group, and was told that one was $2500/month, and the other was $2200/month. We decided to apply to the latter, and submit an application the same day we viewed the apartment.

Within the week we were told we were approved, and that the lease would be sent over shortly. Great! We stopped our house hunt, as we thought this was a great fit. The lease was not sent over to us shortly. I sent a quick email to ask when we could expect it, a week after they said they would send it over 'shortly, ' and it came over promptly.

It seems we might have been forgotten about. I thought that was okay, but the real problem came when the lease was sent over. The rental amount was listed as $2400 a month, an amount that was never discussed verbally, via email, or through any materials given to us from the group. I pointed this out, and their response was akin to 'Welp, thats the price!' Now, this was very disappointing to us, as we had been house hunting from out of state, and already applied to other properties. Had we been made aware of, at any time, the ACTUAL price of the unit we were applying for, we would not have applied, as we had other options.

I called the office on three separate occasions, over the course of two weeks, to broach this issue. Each time, they took down my information, and said they would call me back. They never called me back. I called a fourth time, and asked if they would refund our application fee, since we applied under false pretenses. They said no, you agree that the application fee is non-refundable when you fill it out.

They failed to realize that the issue was we filled out an application for a property that did not exist. I told them that this was at least an error on their part, and at worst manipulation, and they had the gall to tell me that I was the one who made the mistake. I have record of our conversations, and we were not at any time told the actual price of the unit we applied for.

I told the representative that I spoke to that it was rude of them to waste people's time like this, and to suggest that I was lying to them about the information they had given me. She said 'We haven't been rude, you just don't like our answer.' I am really blown away by the lack of professionalism I experienced through this company. I am writing this to caution others to avoid, and take your business to somewhere that respects your time and money.

Wow - never respond to calls, nor do what they said they will do. These Property managers do not care about their tenants.

I stumbled across the building right next to the Becker Group and decided to take a few holiday pictures with my husband. A rude lady driving super fast in an FJ cruiser pulled up and approached us asking us what we were doing. She clearly saw we were taking pictures & she kicked us out because she claimed it was private property and said we needed a permit (which by the way, there was no sign).

She was super rude and obnoxious. Based on previous posts here, it looks like everyone that works here is a complete a$$*****. Stay away from this place, they are the worst folks in Ventura County.

I've been waiting years to write this review out of fear for some sort of retaliation again from this company. We moved to one of their apartments on Main Street from out of state. we had ONE day to find an apartment while we were in town visiting Ventura and after being shown two apartments we were assured that we would be moving in above the nice quiet flower shop below.

After we had singed and sent in paperwork they had told us that the apartment we wanted was rented to another couple but we could have the one down the hall. We were in a pinch and needed a place to rent in CA so we took it. Fast forward to our first week there, we quickly realized that we lived on top of a CrossFit gym. We were woken up every day by weights, balls, ropes slamming agains the walls below us and shaking our bedroom at 4:30am and throughout the day.

It was impossible to sleep in or have peace after a work day. We complained politely at first and then emailed and called and then confronted the gym downstairs as well. The woman working at Becker back then lied to us and said that the gym was told they had to respect quiet hours and that they had called and spoken to them, told them that they wouldn't renew their lease if they bothered tenants and so on. we were told that Jeff Becker himself was notified as well.

When the noise wasn't stopping and we were at our wits end with this gym we started to get less Kind in our communications and even walked downstairs to record the noise at 4:30am as proof that the gym wasn't abiding by their promised quiet time. This obviously created an awkward conversation when we realized that they had never once been reached out to.

When we emailed the video to Becker Group they were completely silent for a day and then I came home to a notice on my door that said we had to VACATE the apartment. we were kicked out of the apartment for complaining about the gym below. I tried to contact the woman at Becker multiple times and then finally was able to reach Jeff who said he had been on vacation and had no idea any of this was even going on (another lie from the woman who worked for him saying he knew and signed the letter on his behalf).

He agreed to let us stay an additional week past the date that was given and refund partial deposit to us. I cannot for the life of me remember who that lady was (Teresa?) and would feel bad if I pointed to the wrong person. if she worked there in 2013 maybe that's it. It's taken me this long, yes, because the whole situation was absolutely insane and I didn't want her to keep lying and hurt our potential to rent in the future if she filed a false report on us.

I hope she's gone and that the gym below our old place is disclosed to people from now on. Glad to get that one off my chest. Gross handling of people and cost a lot of money to recover and find a new place after that. I hope her karma over the years was repaid.

Horrible service. I found a place I wanted to lease for my business and from day 1 they did everything they could to ot help me. I waited for a week to receive and email with "information" I already knew. When I asked to fill out an application they said, "you can but that won't mean you will get it" never will I contact them for leasing anything. Matt Kingsley needs a career change.

We had reached out to this group last week to visit a condo. After a response email that was less than detailed we finally got info about an open showing a few days later. We showed up at 530pm on Friday along with 2 other interested parties and nobody ever showed up. We waited 30 minutes in the rain. One of the other parties had even confirmed that the Condo was showing that afternoon with the office.

I emailed them letting them know we had waited, that I hoped the person who was going to show us the condo didn't have an emergency and that we were still intersected in the condo. Soon after we got an automated email from a rental website showing that the rental had been filled. It is now 4 days later and we have yet to get a response from the rental company apologizing for not showing.

If the rental was filled. That's fine. But a responsible business would let the other interested parties know. No wonder this rental at a great price in a great area was available so long. If I was the property owner I would look elsewhere next time they need this service.

Greedy, don't expect your deposit, unreasonable large fees, won't take care of basic landlord issues.

Jim Gloyd of Becker Group in Ventura is an outstanding broker! I'm currently in negotiations on a commercial property. Jim has been advocating for me since day one (the day I viewed the space) and is very thorough in his communications between me and the owner. He always responds promptly and professionally. Although I'm hoping to make this lease deal work, I will work with Jim again regardless of the outcome! Totally recommend Becker Group! Ask for Jim!

I have been a tenant for two and a half years and am very happy here. Teresa, Jeff and staff at Becker Group have always been super friendly and very helpful.
