Critical: Professionalism Totally ripped us off. Took most of our deposit despite spotless apartment and notification compliance. Made up excuse about not refunding our deposit. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

Our apartment was extremely old and there were multiple points where there was pipe leaking issues especially next to the shower as well as a leak in the ceiling because the toilet pipe above us broke. Due to all these leaks there was a lot of humidity and black mold on our walls and because of that they wouldn't return the security deposit. But it was obviously their fault since they wouldn't fix their piping or leaking issues. Moreover, their blinds easily broke and that was also charged towards our security deposit.

For a 100+ year old house that they wouldn't even spend some time and money to renovate, the $2000 rent for a 1 bedroom is hardly worth it, especially since they put all the damages and blame from their own old pipe issues onto you and your security deposit.

Limited support to emails/texts. Several times, I received no response. Each property seems to have a different person managing it from Everest Properties. Website is not that great or maintained per my experience. The best and most responsive person was Krishna throughout the process. Your experience will really depend on which property manager you get at Everest Property.

Terrible monthly cost for small rooms in a very dirty apartment with a main entryway and stairway that smelled bad. Maintenance requests were addressed ok but could have been much better. Also, I called them up about issues with PGE and the person who answered the phone was unhelpful and also the second time I called they (same person) seemed to give info contradicting the first time I called.

You get what you pay for, I guess. I haven't had anything hella bad happen like bed bugs, flooding, electrical fires, etc. But the appliances in my unit are woefully out of date, to the point that the oven doesn't close, and one of the electric burners doesn't work. I put in a maintenance request regarding mold in the bathroom, they literally just painted over it. No, they did not tape off the fixtures to prevent taping over them. Now the paint is peeling and the mold is back. Hooray. Repairs are less than half-assed. Quarter assed?

The management staff is rude and awful. I paid the rent in advance in their portal and they still call me and rudely ask why I didn't pay the rent until I sent the evidence of payment! Come on, it is just one click in your admin portal to check if the tenant has paid the rent and you blame people without doing your homework first? Just a greedy leasing company and wouldn't recommend to anyone!

Everest keeps their renters happy by being open to supporting students during the pandemic with flexibility in pricing and they take care of maintenance very quickly as well! I have rented from two different properties with Everest and they have been very kind and responsive.

Everest Properties is extremely poorly managed. They are extremely disorganized and getting the smallest thing done takes several follow ups and way to much effort on the tenants' part. Their staff barely speaks English, and sends extremely confusingly written emails that provide little to no information. I would look elsewhere to find a more competent management team - it will save you a lot of headache.

Best company to rent from in the Bay Area. I wish I hadn't wasted lease time with other smaller companies, since they are not as responsive for maintenance requests.

Do not rent here. I lived at the place in 1432 Arch street #D. Had to call Vector Control ( disease control ) to get them to do anything about the constant stream of rats and mice i kept trapping. After I left they managed to bounce my security deposit refund three times ( still not resolved ) on the final attempt they tried to deposit a check at my bank into my bank account without me knowing I am pretty sure thats illegal. I should have been more diligent and pursued an option with the authorities sooner instead of thinking it would magically turn out ok. Do not rent here.

This property management has some of the cheapest rooms for rent, and after using them I know why. Most of the workers and owners are not from the USA. After you rent from them they become quite rude if you need anything such as a broken faucet. Most of their apartments are also managed by non-Americans and the areas are very stinky. They are extremely strict. If you play music at 5 pm they will bang on your door and tell you to use headphones.

Thank you Rama for being such a personable landlord. Every time a problem arose, from needing the lock on the door fixed to needing help cleaning on move out, he addressed it immediately-- if not that day. This apartment is in a prime location right downtown and offers parking and below market rates for a nice one bedroom with plenty of space! Moreover there are balconies for plants : It's super important to find a landlord these days with a reasonable, humane approach and Rama goes above and beyond.

I'm writing a review for this company because I feel like it gets a bad rap. It's really not that bad! Sure, all the appliances don't work the best, but I think that's to be expected for the age of the buildings. Anyways, the price, square footage, and location make it worth it. Anna was always really helpful and sorta mom-like, and maintenance issues were speedily fixed when we submitted a request.

As other people have noted, the company has a morally icky history, but if you're ok with that, it's an otherwise typical leasing company nowadays. Shitty, but just as shitty as any other Berkeley housing.

I just want to give my many thanks to Rama of Everest Properties. I've lived in their apartment on milvia for 1 year and a half and I never had any problem with them. I moved in and just recently moved out smoothly. Thank you Rama for being so considerate.

I really regret living here. Though giving the housing crisis, I felt kinda stuck with Everest. I live in their building on Bancroft, which is quite dilapidated. They do not clean anything nor do they fix anything. Upon moving in, I put in a maintenance request to fix the loose tile and one of the shelves in the kitchen. Year later, NOTHING! On top of that, laundry is disastrous--extremely volatile.

Sometimes the laundry machines work and sometimes they do not. Then when I called to demand a refund and just tired of Everest, the receptionist had the audacity to be rude with me. I had a fine tone during the conversation. In summary, please save yourself and live somewhere else.

En.wikipedia.org/wiki/La. oig.dol.gov/public/media. The owner is a convicted child molester still living in the area and making money hand over fist after being released from prison in 2008

The place was nice, convenient, and kept clean. Management responded to problems in a timely manner, and were polite to me and my roommate. The office also helped me with an issue that arose between me and another tenant. They went above and beyond to resolve it, and I am very grateful for their help!

The absolute worst service imaginable. Attempted to visit a scheduled open house only to discover that nobody was even there. I called them and was told to return two days later. Total waste of an afternoon. I will never rent with them and I recommend that you don't either.

I rented from Everest Properties for over 12 years. I had nothing but the best experience there. Anything that needed a repair and they were immediately there to take care of it - even on a Sunday evening in a non-emergency situation. Everest a properties and Jay Lakireddy treated me excellently. It was a pleasure to have Jay/Everest Properties as a landlord.

I have been their tenant for years. I have no complaints. All's well. In my experience they could get 5 stars. I am being conservative as I understand I may have been lucky not to have any major issues happen yet, while their tenant.

Falsely advertised an apartment to us only to find out it wasn't the apartment promised after signing the lease and getting ready to move in.

I rented from Jay Lakireddy at Everest Properties for over 12 years. At any time something needed a repair, they responded immediately. Even on a Sunday evening in a non emergency situation. They were always kind and understanding. I find it odd to see so many negative reviews - it was not my experience.

I'm going to go out on a limb and share my positive experiences in the last 6 years. I think I got really lucky with contacting the right person from the start. Laksh is the 'general area manager' whom I contacted through a craigslist posting for a unit that I didn't end up living in. He has always been easily reachable through text or phone.

He actually showed me several units (so do make sure you already know what you want when looking for apartments!) before I decided on my place. He was quite flexible and was able to work out a schedule where I could move in mid-august as some students moved out. I've had no major issues living in my downtown apt and really made my apt my home at the heart of Berkeley.

I miss it already. In the past six years, they have: - remodeled and opened the lobby (it used to have a lot of blind corners, was carpeted and got gross because randos would get in. Packages and laundry would go missing :( but after remodeling the office I stopped having those issues.) - added tons of surveillance camera (to address the previous issues too) - replaced laundry units (the old ones were getting faulty) - moved the rent payment and maintenance requests online, which makes the process a lot easier for me - remodeled my shower/ bath tub - were prompt with any plumbing/ water pressure issues - tolerated my accidentally locking myself out multiple times at odd hours.

For this last one, I think it helps that there is an apt manager living on site. My only complain specific to my unit may have been setting up the internet as the apt is quite old. The AT&T people were always confused at the cables and could never set up my internet correctly without affecting some poor neighbor's phone line or internet. I hope the wiring gets fixed soon, though I'm not sure how much of it is the management's issue.

Maybe it's AT&T, which is a separate rant of mine. Anyways I'd say give them a try, but of course, with a huge grain of salt. They do have a lot of units you could potentially check out.

100% Slumlords. While I have tried to avoid this company during my multiple East Bay housing searches, they are unavoidable. Likely due to their horrific reputation, they never disclose their company name in Craigslist postings, so I've driven out to multiple showings only to have to turn right around. As everyone else says, google Lakireddy - they are operating under multiple names, but Everest seems to be the most common in the immediate area of Berkeley's campus.

The last showing I saw - for an apartment on Dwight - was absolutely the worst, most disgusting apartment I have ever seen in Berkeley or Oakland (and unfortunately I've seen many). The building was horrifically maintained on the outside and reeked of mold inside. The woman showing it was gruff and unfriendly. Worst, the apartment was such a pigsty that we couldn't even walk inside the bedroom!

The floor was totally covered with dirty clothes, empty beer bottles, etc. The place was in obvious disrepair - closet door fallen off the closet and laying on the ground, kitchen so filthy that it was likely uncleanable, etc. And all of this for the "low price" of ~$2000/month for a place that was barely 500 square feet. No thanks.

This is the first Yelp review I've ever written. I'm doing this solely for the purpose of warning people how awful this place is. I wish I could give negative stars. Our apartment at 2033 Haste was absolutely disgusting, especially for what we were paying. When we moved in the stove didn't completely work (at one point it actually spontaneously burst into flames, not even exaggerating) and there was a gas leak coming from the heater.

The fridge and freezer leaked so everything would end up covered with water or ice. But the worst part my far was the mold. It was in the bathroom when we moved in, and after living there for only two months, my dresser and bed frame were COVERED. When we told management about the problem, they just said to move the furniture away from the wall and open the window more.

We started sleeping with the balcony door open to ventilate the room every night (freezing and kind of dangerous, but mold really freaks me out) and this did absolutely nothing to prevent it. We even bought two dehumidifiers and this still didn't solve the problem. There is clearly a dampness issue that needs to be addressed. We eventually become so fed up that we decided to break our lease early.

When I called the office to speak to the property manager about this, the receptionist told me that he was out of the country until the next month. Luckily, we were able to get her to call him and he agreed that we could leave (probably so he wouldn't have a health lawsuit on his hands). Bottom line, live literally anywhere else.
