About 5 years into the business a customer asked him if he would consider building and managing a rental property for him.

I have rented from JW Hunter for years and rent has been on time they never had any issues getting their rent. Recently I had acquired a service animal federally registered. They had tried to stall my lease renewal and still are over the service dog. Once I got lawyers involved they back off and said the dog is approved. Now they are discrimanating me over adding my son to the lease who was a restaurant manager who lost his job from the pandemic shut down.

He is back to work in construction now and doing well. They have violated so many fair housing laws that I got an lawyer involved a second time. DO NOT RENT FROM THESE PEOPLE. THEY ARE CROOKS

My experience with J.W. Hunter Company, Inc. is going extremely smooth. I have not had issues reaching the leasing agent nor getting complete answers to my questions. I was never made to feel like I was calling too often and the communication I received was more than ample. I was kept informed, and anything promised by the agent was followed up on as told to me.

I am in the process of moving to one of their properties and I feel ready to make the transition because they have equipped me with the information needed. They let you know the policies up front, and I do not expect any surprises. I am a details person, and I couldn't ask for more at this time. Truly professional experience thus far and I am happy that I chose them, and they chose me.

JW Hunter Is probably the worst apartment rental places in Wilson in terms of customer service. Profits > People. Hidden fees, rental increase as they feel, they even had many loopholes during COVID when the moratorium was in NC by Roy Cooper. I guess props to them for having a monopoly in Wilson. You can say the apartments are decent but I tend to find a new issue that occurs due to deteriorating housing conditions that I know for a fact I will be charged and blamed for instead of them. Just when you think the bar can't get lower.

We live in a very quiet and safe neighborhood with friendly neighbors. It's a great little duplex with an affordable rent. I recently needed to submit a work order for a few repairs. It was refreshing to have a timely response in an era where customer service seems to be lagging.

From start to finish, Gigi was fabulous! I was dead set on getting a rental here based on my budget and their upgraded duplexes. Gigi made sure I got exactly what I was looking for and made sure the entire experience was perfect!

I submitted a repair request night before about my A/C not working at all, I received a call as soon as 9 am. They were on top of it! and the Repair man came out same day and fixed the problem quickly, I must say I'm very happy I got a company that truly cares about our comfort and happiness living here. JW Hunter are the most incompetent people to rent from. EVER. When we rented from them they seemed to always lose the rent check, even when we drove out there and put the check into their own mail slot. The place we lived was overrun with bugs that it was an infestation. The person "M T B" we had to deal with, I guess not much education because once again incompetent to even do her job.

Do not rent from this company. We had our dog on the lease but once there was another dog there that was a support dog and the "Drrrr" maintenance man reported it and they contacted us saying we need to pay the fee. Nope, not happening. I tell you now, DON'T RENT FROM HERE! There is no good communication with them. There portal did not work, they are a joke as a company.

Unfortunately, my review is no different than the others. It's a terrible company to rent from. Our lease was of 1 year and we left as soon as it was up. The number of calls I had to make to maintenance FOR THE SAME PROBLEM is outrageous. If something breaks, FIX IT! Don't just patch it. We had two instances where people tried breaking in our cars.

One time they actually bust the back window out of our car. Highly recommend not to live in the duplexes on Kenan St. There are constant bugs and roaches and yes we did call for them to come out and spray which they never did. The neighbor had to put moth balls outside. We asked for a motion light outside: took them over a month to get one. With the arrival of Covid, the office has been closed and they can only be reached by phone. Well. we call and leave messages and the callbacks are always ages later.

They take your security deposit right away but take over a month to return it to you. Their policy is the security deposit will process after 30 days of moving out. Terrible! We couldn't wait to run out of there.

The community was a pleasure to live in but as other reviews have noted this company has a history of not returning your full security deposit. It's a shame that lawyers need to be involved in what should be a simple return of funds. I would not recommend renting from this group.

Unfortunately, one of the worst rental properties in the area. JW Hunter makes tenants pay for repairs that are caused by natural wear and tear as opposed to something the tenant has done. I have reported weather and termite damage at the base of my back door and they have yet to repair it. So, insects from outside can come freely in and out at any time. JW Hunter raises rent each year despite the recession in economy. JW Hunter does not value their tenants and are highly profit driven over tenant loyalty.

Rented with them for almost 3 years and all I can say is if you're thinking about using them. DONT! Rent was always paid on time and even early in most cases. They never do any maintenance on the properties until something breaks.there is zero preventive maintenance, no pest control excluding an annual termite inspection that you have to do at THEIR convenience.

Their rent goes up every single year without any improvement to the grounds or property. The office staff is rude beyond belief once you sign the papers. Their deposit system is outrageous. I paid to have my locks and hardware changed because they failed to respond in a timely manner (really they just didn't do anything at all). I did it at my own expense of 175 dollars.

The locks were so old they fell apart when they tried to rekey them. When I chose not to renew my lease and checked out, they charged me 703 dollars to replace the same locks because their locks were "special". Apparently they are made of gold. They denied they make any money off it but even the most expensive locksmith only charges half of that price. Buyer beware!

The apartment duplex on the outside was clean and appearance was up-to-date. But the visage was soon apparent after living there a few months. The carpets, the counters, and appliances were the lowest quality, I had to replace the fridge, a.c. unit, the dish washer was hardly working, and the hot water heater busted 3 times. Their repair service they use were rude and hard to get a hold of.

The nightmare didnt end there after moving out they wanted me to pay to replace the carpets, counter tops, reseal the floor whatever that means, and pay 140 dollars to replace a door stop and bulbs. I advise not to rent from them unless you like paying money to fix up other peoples properties.

While JW Hunter offers well kept rentals that are bright and updated, their lack of customer service and rip off tactics leave much to be desired. We have three children 8 and under, but I probably keep a cleaner house than much of much of Rocky Mount. We were told that we would need to replace all of the carpeting and in our three bedroom unit. Our move out letter also stated that there was baseboard damage from a pet.

We have never had a pet and they know it. I believe they are trying to blame us for something from a previous tenant. The lease never stated anywhere that we were responsible for replacing the carpeting. The 3.5 years we lived in that unit probably inflicted the normal wear and tear on cheap renter's carpet. From a past incident, we were late on rent one month.

That is the only time I've ever gotten the check out late in an almost 13 year rental history. I'd also just had my third child. The office had the wrong phone number for us, but instead of coming to leave something on our door within a timely timely manner, they waited until I realized the mistake and sent in the check. Then we got a letter on our door, which we never hearda knock for, with court papers.

We ended up having to pay extra money and court costs just because their small army of people were too lazy to get to us before they reacted. JW HUNTER is trying to charge us an extra $1030 PAST our apparently forfeited $350 deposit. Unless you don't have any other options or you like to roll over and take your punches, I would not rent from this company. Calling in and asking questions gets you no where. We never got any straight answers to any of our questions.
