I have worked with Yarmouth in the past to find an apartment. The experience was fine, not great. I still live in the building. Recently a Yarmouth employee tried to enter my apartment without permission or knocking. They were using their keys to enter the premises. When I asked who it was they said they were there to see a completely different apartment in the building, but were confused about which apartment it was.

The Yarmouth employee was extremely unprofessional. It seems odd they did not even know what apartment they were supposed to be showing and thought to just enter an occupied unit without even knocking. Like I said, I had a fine experience when searching for an apartment, but I would probably look elsewhere for my next apartment search due to the unprofessional nature of the employee trying to enter my unit.

It would benefit the company to train their rental agents better and ensure that they are aware of the apartments they are showing before actually entering. Disappointing experience - be wary before using this company or at least do your research.

I was looking for assistance with finding an apartment on capital hill, but no one was available to help me. I called several times, no answer, so I drove to the office location, and was told they would call me back. No call back. VERY disappointed in Yarmouth associates. I drove around capital hill on my days off (all day)and found my own apartment, Park Kennedy, and I took it from there. NO HELP from this company. Just look around yourself

Ms. Diana Hibbs went above and beyond to assist my family with finding a rental property in Capitol Hill. She patiently guided us through several properties within our space and price ranges, offering pertinent information and advice along the way. If you're starting a rental search in the area, I'd highly recommend the Yarmouth Management team.

I rented a house in Capitol Hill and complained to management about bad smells, insect issues, and faulty plumbing. After not being addressed, I tried to break my lease, but ended up having to pay almost $2,000 to do so. Ridiculous, but worth it to leave this awful management company.

We can't thank Yarmouth enough. We moved to DC from out of state which made the rental process tricky while being virtual through other forums like Zillow. That being said, we made the move and had a full uhaul and two dogs to take care of without a home. Hotels and Airbnb's were not easy. We explained our situation to Yarmouth and the team jumped through hoops to help expedite our application and find us a home.

Not only that but we are obsessed with the place we found. The Yarmouth team really had our backs, were responsive and extremely professional. Thanks again for everything you've done team, we are so happy to be here.

We rented from Yarmouth for 3 years during our time in DC. Their small team is attentive and when issues arise, they are quick to deliver a solution. Because they are small, you're not dealing with the red tape of a largely owned apartment or condo complex. Maintenance requests were tended to in a timely fashion, and my husband and I were always pleased with our interactions with Yarmouth staff. Despite our expedited departure from DC due to the arrival of our twin babies, we would absolutely continue renting from Yarmouth if given the opportunity.

The fact that Yarmouth manages so many units in DC should be a safety concern for us all. Even though they manage hundreds of units, where people live 24/7, there is no way to contact them except to leave a voicemail that may or may not be returned. No one should be forced to pay DC rental prices and then be unable to contact anyone during emergencies. That's on top of poor communication, maintenance that may or may not show up, an online maintenance request system that no one checks, front desk folks that guess at answers to questions regarding move in (and usually guess wrong) and amenities they say are included in the price when they advertise the unit and then that changes when you move in. Don't rent with Yarmouth, they have beautiful units, but living in them is not worth the stress of their poor management.

We rented from Yarmouth for ten years. Their turnaround on all fixes and maintenance on our row house was excellent, and we enjoyed their proactive work in keeping the property in the best shape possible. If you want to rent in Capitol Hill and adjoining neighborhoods, make sure to give Yarmouth a look.

I contacted Yarmouth 3 separate times over 2 weeks to try and set up showings for multiple units I was interested in -- and never got a call from a realtor. The receptionist was always nice and responsive to me but it's hard to believe they ever rent out any of their units when they don't call back someone who was interested in 4 of their current listings.

I've rented an English basement through Yarmouth for almost a year, and it has been an absolute pleasure. The management agency has an online portal where I can schedule my rent payment each month. The portal has a tab for maintenance if there's any issues. The only "issue" I ever had was my window unit had mold from not being used for a long time.

They didn't just clean it; they replayed the whole unit, without my even asking for a replacement. The management agency also sends out weather alerts to check drains in bad weather and sends out a maintenance person yearly to check the heaters before winter. I've truly enjoyed renting from them and would recommend this agency to anyone. Thanks so much Yarmouth!

I did a application with them last friday hoping to get this place and remain in the same neighborhood. I had high hopes since i spoke with Jack and was told my little to no credit should be fine espically with a vocher. I waited 4 days to get a response and they didn't even have the nerve to call me directly I had to reach out to them to find out if i got approved or denied.

After reading the reviews i see why i was denied its a shame they are picking the tenants they want in there properties. DO NOT DO A APPLICATION WITH THEM IF YOU HAVE A VOCHER

We have lived in a Yarmouth property for a year now and have loved it. The management is easy to work with and any maintenance issues are quickly fixed. I would (and have!) recommended to friends.

Me: a functioning and responsible adult in search of a rental property. Prepared with application, research, budget, and a healthy understanding of the competition in the DC rental market, quick to respond and ready to make moves, by all means a serious strong tenant lead. Yarmouth: lackadaisical and unwilling to answer emails in full sentences. Highly unorganized, despite only having 6 agents, there's no internal or proactive communication. Properties routinely are leased out and become unavailable without coordinating who has showings scheduled, and there's absolutely no advocacy on your behalf. Yarmouth is not tenant friendly.

The could not show less empathy or be remotely interested in being helpful or forthright with information. Yes, they lease a lot of homes on the Hill. And if you're lucky and are fumbled through their half-witted processes like a plinko ball, you can snag a listing, but after dealing with the incompetence on the search, I'd hate to endure their property management. I'm happy to share the email exchange I had with your staff and would be interested in your assessment on if it's adequate by your standards.

I truly have no idea how Yarmouth rents out properties. On two separate occasions, I emailed trying to set up a tour and indicated interest in their properties. The first time I emailed, I wanted to tour a specific property and was ignored after stating when I was available. I emailed a second time and was told the property was rented out, so I provided FIVE or more properties I was interested in.

After having some communication with a leasing agent, I have once again been ignored for over a week. I understand there were holidays but it looks terrible for any business to ignore their emails and calls.

Hey Susan Z. I've had quite possibly the worst experience yet in one of your rental properties. (I have been living at one of your properties for over 2 years and been reporting these issues for 1 1/2 years FYI.) My life has been threatened. I have reported MORE THAN 6 violations of lease happening on property, parties of 20+ people, and illegal growing and selling of controlled substances. I've attempted for almost 1 year straight to get in touch with the owner of either the property of the management company- and have yet to be given any contact information. If you care at all about you're rental properties being trap houses I truly hope this might make a difference after a year of no progress speaking with "matt." Th

I've had a terrific experience with Yarmouth-I wholeheartedly recommend them. I actually rented two apartments thru Yarmouth and each experience was terrific. The staff was super responsive and available, as a new comer to the city, they were an invaluable resource. I am forever grateful to Steve D. for recommending me.

Their maintenance staff has harassed my wife and I, wasting our time and energy repeatedly over non-issues that they could easily resolve on their own. And, this is how they treat perfect tenants during these times of lockdowns and protests. The company is clearly poorly run and only cares about making money. Look elsewhere.

I have been using Yarmouth for the last two moves and really just like the community feel of it. I run a business in the neighborhood and have become really attached to the Capitol Hill community. While I was busy getting the business started I had to move at the same time and Cameron went above and beyond coming to show me places on his days off and being genuinely warm and accommodating. I recommend all my friends to Yarmouth so I feel comfortable recommending it to my fellow yelpers.

They managed our property for a little over a year and were not worth the fee. Consistently failed to manage maintenance costs and needed persistent follow-up to update on property conditions, address accounting and other admin issues. Only the owner, Susan, takes responsibility or initiative so best not to bother with the rest of the staff.

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but my husband and I were interested in renting a new place in Capitol Hill and finally found a place we were interested. The experience was not easy with Yarmouth. We had to contact the owners through the application processor who was very pushy and rude every time we talked to her. They lied about what was included with the unit and we didn't find out until we tediously read the lease.

We decided we did not want to rent through Yarmouth and give them our business just to be pushed around and given crazy ultimatums. House hunting should be a positive experience, not a negative one. Given two stars, because the people who showed us houses were nice and responded very quickly.

Great experience all the way thru. Tom Cash went the extra mile to get us out of a jam and get us spare keys when we locked ourselves out on a holiday weekend. Matt and the leasing team were easy to work with getting in. We love our place!

Everything is fine with this company except for the maintenance guy Tom Cash. 2 years and he never fixed my door(huge safety issue!) or patio light after multiple emails back and forth. A couple times people actually showed up, but they should be coming every time I'm told they will show up. Tom also acts surprised your unit has never had roaches or mice when you tell him.

All of the tenants talk to each other so stop acting shocked when we see mice and roaches at 1544! I've had a hole in my ceiling for over 6 months and I told him twice about it. They finally decide to show up magically because I am moving out and they have to do a quick patch job to rent it out again. Looking forward to writing a letter to the actual owner of the building.

This was my property management company for 7 of the 8 years I lived in D.C. My circumstances may be a little different since I had a pretty ideal setup and there wasn't much they could've done wrong. I can honestly say I didn't have any complaints the entire time I rented with them. Pause. I do wish they would've had some type of automatic/electronic payment system.

The only reason that wasn't a huge deal was because I lived within walking distance of the office and worked from home a lot. I found the staff to be friendly (especially Debbierena.love her) and whenever I emailed or called for service or a concern, I was addressed within a couple hours. I enjoyed my stay there and if I ever am back in the area and looking to rent, I'll check out their listings first.

These guys are incredible. I can't believe they only have 3 stars. I have been renting an English Basement with them for 3 years. They never raised my rent despite replacing all the carpets with real tile floors. Any repairs were responded to immediately and I definitely ran into some issues living in a basement apartment in an older row house.

The people they have sent to make repairs have done so efficiently and correctly. Yarmouth allowed me to go month-to-month after my first year on a lease. I have mostly dealt with Tom Cash through the years and he is totally on top of things. I never had to wait for a response on anything. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a rental, particularly in the Capital Hill area, and have done so to many friends of friends! And if I am ever looking for someone to manage a property of my own, I'll reach out to them first thing.

I've rented a home under Yarmouth Management for 4 years now. it's been an endless saga of tenant rights violations. Personally nice people who are terrible at their jobs and employ maintenance people who are TERRIBLE at their jobs. Every time someone comes to fix something they have to come back a second or third time to try and repair their "repairs".

I could write a book on how bad these guys are. I'm at the point where i'm considering involving the city. I strongly recommend you stay away from enlisting Yarmouth to manage your investment property.

They get stars for being 1)metro accessible, and close to the properties they manage and 2) being very sweet and nice every time I've called them or gone in to talk to them. They're also pretty quick on the response, you just have to make sure to ask. Eg. When I called them because my room was 15 degrees colder than the rest of the house, I asked them for a space heater and they got it to me within a couple of days. However, they do get docked a star for being a little flaky on my rental application.

I applied and had only 1 yr and 3 months of history because there are only 2 spaces to fill(1 yr in NY then 3 months in DC while looking for a place), and they said this wasn't an issue. But later, they delayed my application because they wanted at least 2 years of history, so it was an issue! Anxiety causing for sure. Overall, they've been really nice and responsive so far and moved things through relatively quickly. Yay!
